Meet Nj Rescue Dogs Ruff & Fluff at Puppy Bowl 2023! Stream on Your Favorite Channel.

Are you ready for the cutest Super Bowl Sunday of all time? Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XIX is just around the corner, and this year, six rescue dogs from New Jersey are joining the competition for the Lombarky Trophy. From a basset hound named Asiago who was adopted by a family in Pennsylvania, to three puppies from Texas, and two littermates from Oklahoma, these furry friends have had quite the journey to Puppy Bowl glory.

Cathy Larsen, board member at Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue, adopted Asiago from a backyard breeder in West Virginia. Asiago is playing for Team Fluff, and his deep, resounding bark is one of the hallmarks of his breed. Along with Asiago, Myrtle, Effie and Barnaby from MatchDog Rescue, and Poe and Walker from A Second Chance for Ziva, are all competing for the Lombarky Trophy.

Myrtle, a Chihuahua mix, and Barnaby, a Schnauzer mix, are playing for Team Ruff, while Effie, a terrier mix, is playing for Team Fluff. Myrtle was one of eight puppies born in May to a 9-pound mother with a fractured pelvis, while Barnaby was a Texas foster found on the street. Effie was surrendered to a high-kill Texas shelter, and the two littermates from Oklahoma were rescued from a high-kill shelter.

The Puppy Bowl is a great way to get the message out about the positives of adopting from a rescue as opposed to a breeder. All of this year’s Jersey rescues have been adopted, and are now living with their new families. Asiago has the run of his new home on a farm with horses and chickens, while Myrtle and her sister live in New Jersey with their owner, a MatchDog volunteer. Barnaby lives in Pennsylvania with a therapist who helps people with trauma, and Effie resides in New York City, where she loves to visit the dog park. Poe and Walker, the two littermates, now live with their new family in Pennsylvania.

Tune in to Animal Planet on Sunday, February 12th at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT to watch these amazing rescue dogs compete for the Lombarky Trophy. Who will take home the prize? You’ll have to watch to find out!
