In 2016, “La La Land” captivated audiences with its original songs, such as “City of Stars,” “Another Day of Sun” and “Audition (Fools Who Dream).” Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling as an aspiring actor and jazz musician, respectively, the movie showed us all the power of pursuing our dreams. The movie’s success at the Academy Awards, where it won Best Director for Damien Chazelle and Best Actress for Stone, and at the box office, grossing $151 million in North America and $472 million worldwide, made it a timeless classic.
Now, the beloved movie is being adapted into a stage show and will open on Broadway at an undetermined date. The show will feature music by Justin Hurwitz and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Bartlett Sher (“To Kill a Mockingbird,” “Fiddler on the Roof”) is directing the stage adaptation based on a book written by playwrights Ayad Akhtar and Matthew Decker. The Broadway cast has yet to be announced.
