Sony Pictures is looking to reboot the 1997 hit with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge, Someone Great, Sweet/Vicious) at the helm. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., the original stars of the film, are also in talks to reprise their roles.
It’s been over two decades since the original movie was released, and now it looks like fans will get to experience the thrill of I Know What You Did Last Summer again. This remake will bring a fresh perspective to the franchise, and Leah McKendrick is on board to write the script. Neal H. Moritz is also in talks to return as producer.
The original I Know What You Did Last Summer follows four teens from a small seaside town who are haunted (or, more literally, stalked) by a hook-wielding maniac after getting into a hit-and-run accident. The film earned more than $125 million at the box office and spawned the direct sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which starred Jennifer Love Hewitt, Brandy, Mekhi Phifer and Matthew Settle.
The news of the relaunch comes following the successful reboot of the Scream franchise, which continues with Scream VI hitting theaters on March 10. The franchise also got a streaming reboot with Amazon Prime Video’s I Know What You Did Last Summer in 2021.
