The world of Indiana Jones is coming alive again! After a 15-year hiatus, Harrison Ford will be returning as the beloved archaeologist in the fifth installment of the iconic franchise, ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’. And, as seen in the Super Bowl trailer, this time he’s bringing along some exciting new characters.
The Dial of Destiny takes place in 1969 during the U.S.-Soviet Space Race. Indy and his goddaughter Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, go head-to-head with villainous Nazis. Mads Mikkelsen and Boyd Holbrook will play Jürgen Voller and Klaber, respectively, while Antonio Banderas, Shaunette Renée Wilson, and Toby Jones join the cast as new additions. John Rhys-Davies will reprise his role of Sallah from 1989’s “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.”
The first trailer for the Dial of Destiny was an action-packed celebration of Indy’s return to the screen. We get a glimpse of Indy zooming through desert streets, standing on top of a moving train, and cracking his whip at a room full of armed villains.
The fifth installment of the series is confirmed to be Harrison Ford’s final appearance as the hero. He told Variety’s Marc Malkin last month at the premiere of his new Apple TV+ series, “Shrinking,” about his return, “I always wanted to do it. I wanted to do the rest of the story to see the end of his career.”
Composer John Williams had previously announced the feature would be his last as well, though the 91-year-old said he no longer intends to retire during an onstage interview with Variety’s Jon Burlingame Jan. 12. “I’ll stick around for awhile,” Williams said. “I can’t retire from music. A day without music is a mistake.”
James Mangold, who most recently directed “Logan and “Ford vs. Ferrari,” is taking the helm as both writer and director on the upcoming feature. “Indiana Jones” creators George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, who directed the franchise’s previous installments, are still attached to the project as executive producers.
If you’re excited to see what happens next, then you don’t have to wait much longer. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 30. Get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!
