“Oh, we’ve done enough.” [introtopic] = The Lack of Black Women Representation in Hollywood
Welcome to my blog post about the lack of Black women representation in Hollywood. This is an issue that has been around for decades, but has recently been brought to light due to the 2021 Oscars. This year, not a single Black woman was nominated for best director, and several films made by and starring Black women were omitted from the nominations. As a Black filmmaker, this issue hits close to home for me.
In this blog post, I will discuss my thoughts on the lack of Black women representation in Hollywood, and the impact that this has had on the industry. I will also talk about the recent Oscar nominations, and why I believe they are a reflection of the chasm between Black excellence and recognition. Finally, I will look at the importance of awards in the industry, and how they can impact the steps that Black creatives take in the industry.
I hope this blog post gives you an insight into the issue of Black women representation in Hollywood, and why it is so important to have this conversation. So, let’s dive in!
